Energy conservation is a very practical way to care for the earth and ourselves. It helps limit the use of fossil fuels and makes the air cleaner for plants, animals, and ourselves. It can be practiced in the industry and at home.
Industry has cut its use of energy over the past several years. This has been done by using more efficient methods of producing goods. Recycled material is being used more and more to make various products. It takes less energy than using raw materials to make the same product.
Many simple ways to conserve energy can be practiced in the home. This includes using more energy efficient appliances from light bulbs to refrigerators to hot water heaters. Just by changing the thermostat two degrees or more can result in using less heat in the wintertime, or less cooling in the summertime. Using energy efficient light bulbs also helps to conserve energy. Other ways include turning out lights when a room is not in use, walking instead of driving, drying clothes outside instead of using the dryer, making sure your home is weatherized, and putting as many items as possible in the recycle bin.
Using a more fuel-efficient car helps to conserve energy. It also helps eliminate air pollution. Use of public transportation or riding bicycles is becoming more popular in many places.
The more you can use renewable energy sources such as, wind, water, or solar energy, the less the air will be polluted and the safer the atmosphere will be for all the inhabitants of the earth.
