With the world's natural resources being depleted at an alarming rate, there is a need for alternative sources of energy. Solar Energy is the light and heat that is given off from the sun that helps sustain life on earth. The uses vary from electricity for homes, to energy for batteries in cars or growing plants.
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity by using photovoltaic or solar panels. Solar panels can be used in multiple situations, one being providing home electricity. The panels are placed on the top of homes and are used in conjunction with normal electrical power for the home. The power acquired by the solar panel can be stored in power cells and can be used in times off power outages or can be used as the homes only source off power. Other uses of solar power are solar water heaters which can heat swimming pools or heat water for domestic use. Greenhouses use solar energy to provide light and heat to help plants grows for harvesting, and we also use solar energy in evaporation pools to harvest salt from water for everyday use. There are only a few disadvantages to solar energy and the main reason is location. The weather is not predictable, so placement of solar panels are only useful if the sky is clear for the sun to hit the panels, otherwise the panels only store the power in their cells that they have collected.
Solar power is a well known source of energy that has become very popular in today's society due to the rising cost of power and fuel prices. Solar power is being used more by homeowners for electricity and for its heating purposes, and will remain a constant source of power for our growing population.
