In Denmark almost 20 percent of their energy is from windmills, in Spain and Portugal at least 9 percent of energy is from windmills and in Germany at least 7 percent of energy is from windmills. We in the United States have gone from 0.1 percent to 1 percent over a five year period. There are a lot of incentives to use reusable sources for energy to help decrease the greenhouse effect. Texas, in the past year, has passed California in wind energy usage. Ohio has also developed some wind farms to generate energy. Cleveland, Ohio claims the invention of the modern electric wind turbine by Charles Brush. States are starting to provide incentives such as tax breaks and exemption from property tax. There is also research into off shore wind farms. There is no pollution related to wind farms no fuel is used to run anything. No gases to add to the greenhouse effect. The biggest concern seems to be for birds. In Europe, one group looked at the number of birds killed by the windmills and sited that it was less than by cars and the overall benefit to the planet out weighed this small effect on the birds. Overall, the energy generated by the windmills can be of great benefit to all of us and to the planet. If you have a large enough land area in non-urban area you can have your own windmill. It would pay for itself within 6-9 months.
