With such attention being brought to environmental concerns and global warming, as well as the painful prices at the gas pumps and the concern over oil prices, it seems as though everyone is wondering what to do. Some people are making, or are looking to make, changes because of fear for what is in store for the world we live in. Others may simply be tired of seeing the cost of just about everything increase due to the rising price of transportation. Whatever the reason, everyone seems hungry for a change and windmill energy is one of the many environmental friendly things that may be worth taking a look at.
Windmills have been around forever it seems. They have been used to pump water and to generate electricity. Windmills come in two different types, vertical axis and horizontal axis. They can be relatively small or incredibly large. They can also power a single house or an entire city. Windmills use the kinetic energy from the wind to generate electricity. Because there is no waste or burning involved it is considered a very environmentally safe way of producing energy. Windmill energy makes up a very small percentage of the overall electricity we use today even though it has the potential for so much more. Wind farms are large farms with windmills strategically placed to generate large amounts of energy. Most of these farms, however, are not owned by the public utility companies, they are owned by independent business owners and the energy they produce is then sold.
It is always worth taking a good hard look at any alternative power source. You may not be ready to go windmill shopping just yet, but who knows how many windmills we will be driving by in the near future.
